Aviation Training Certificates That Cannot Be Faked and Can Be Verified Anywhere

Why is certification such a burden in aviation?

Because a single career generates dozens of credentials and the systems holding them have not kept pace. Ground school completions, simulator hours, type ratings, emergency procedures, recurrent training and instructor endorsements accumulate over decades, and for cabin crew, engineers and maintenance technicians the list is just as long. Each one has to be produceable years later, often in a different country.

The training organisation carries the reputational risk. If a certificate you issued is altered, misrepresented or cannot be verified at the moment it matters, that lands on your institution.

  • Paper certificates get lost, damaged and separated from their holders. A pilot who trained in one country, lives in another and flies for a carrier in a third may need to produce certificates issued years ago.
  • A PDF offers no real security. Any editor can change a name, a date or a qualification. For documents that function as safety evidence, that is not an acceptable gap.
  • Verification is slow and manual. Confirming a training certificate usually means emails, phone calls and waiting, and it fails outright when the school has closed, relocated or changed ownership.
  • International crews need credentials that travel. A certificate locked in a filing cabinet or buried in an inbox does not serve an industry that crosses borders by default.

Has licence and training fraud really happened in aviation?

Yes, at a scale that grounded an entire national carrier. In June 2020 Pakistan's aviation minister told parliament that a large share of the country's commercial pilot licences had been obtained fraudulently, and the regulatory response reached across three continents within weeks. The episode is the clearest published case of what happens when a training record cannot be independently checked.

The cost in that case was not the forged paperwork. It was the months every legitimate pilot spent grounded while somebody worked out whose records could be trusted.

How does TRUE secure an aviation training certificate?

By fixing the contents at issue and anchoring them on a blockchain, then making the check something anyone can run from a phone. Nothing about the process depends on your training centre answering an email.

Anchored on chain, so the contents cannot change

Every certificate issued through TRUE is written to the blockchain. The trainee name, the qualification, the date and the issuing organisation are locked cryptographically at issue, and cannot be altered, backdated or forged afterwards by the recipient, by a third party or by TRUE.

QR verification that works anywhere

Each certificate carries a QR code. An airline recruiter, a regulatory inspector or an employer scans it with a phone camera and sees who was certified, for what, when and by whom.

What stops someone forging a certificate you issued?

The hash, not the artwork. A forger can reproduce your logo, your layout and a signature convincingly, and none of that survives a comparison against the record written when the document was issued. That comparison is what a verifier runs, and it does not need your cooperation.

An immutable record at issue

The credential's data is hashed and written to the blockchain. That hash is a fingerprint of the exact document. Change one character and the hash no longer matches, so verification fails. Tampering is not merely hard, it is detectable.

Verification that outlives the issuer

A pilot may need to prove a type rating awarded fifteen years ago by a training centre that no longer exists. On paper that is often impossible. Here the record persists independently of the organisation that issued it.

eIDAS compliant

TRUE meets the EU electronic identification and trust services standard, which matters for European training organisations and for any institution whose certificates may be reviewed by EU regulators.

Does it work across borders?
